Trapcode Particular

Project Migration from Earlier Versions

We are very happy to announce that Particular 2023 is backward compatible with projects imported from earlier versions. Click the orange Migrate Settings button to start the process.

For steps to migrate all Particular instances with a single command, see our Particular Bulk Migration FAQ .

Due to intrinsic differences in how things like physics work between Particular versions, some items in the latest major release may need tweaking to match their prior appearances. We recommend checking the following if you run into differences:

Grid and Layer Emitters

Because Grid and Layer Grid emitters no longer exist as an Emitter Type in Particular, their properties have moved to the Distribution group. Old projects with Grid and Layer Grid emitters will migrate to the new implementation.

Migration notes from previous versions:

Air Resistance

Air Resistance is now an intrinsic property of the plug-in's particle physics. You may need to turn this down to have it react as it did before when Air Resistance was set to zero. This property also interacts with Air Density; see below for more info.

Secondary systems with non-default Air Resistance values will cancel Particle Type inheritance after migration. For instance, If a secondary system had no Particle Type block and was inheriting particle characteristics, but it also had a non-default value for Air Resistance after migration, a Particle Type block would be created to honor the Air Resistance. However, this would override any inheritance that would have happened for other particle parameters. Previously inherited parameters will instead be copied to the secondary system.

Air Density

Air Density is a new Environment control that determines how heavy or dense the air is around particles. Air Density defaults to 1.0. This means if particles have a non-zero amount of Air Resistance, eventually they start to slow as their air resistance increases against the air's density.

To recreate faster movement through the air, you can turn Air Density all the way down to zero, which mimics the vacuum of cold, lonely outer space.

Gravity

Gravity now responds to particle Mass and Air Resistance as set in the Particle Physics category. If Gravity does not affect all your systems as you remember it doing, you may want to dial it up or down, or change the particle physics on individual systems.

Shadowlets

Shadowlets now handle more accurately, but you may get different results than seen previously and want to adjust Shadowlet Opacity, Adjust Size, or Adjust Distance to match a previous look. The default Shadowlet shape's softness can also be tweaked now. You may need to change this to reach a desired result.

Simulation Samples

Increase Simulation Samples/frame in Global Controls if you see jagged lines during any paths in motion.
